At first I didn’t even know I tore my ACL. I came off the rim wrong and I heard a pop. I was able to get up and walk. I went to take off on to the defense and it gave out. I knew something was wrong. I went to the emergency room and they said it was just a knee sprang. I told my mom I didn’t think so, I knew it was something else. I still couldn’t bend my knee. She said ok, we will schedule you an appointment. She did her research and found out Doctor Wilson was the best in the area. We came in and he did and MRI. He came in and let me know it was my ACL. It was devastation it brought me to tears. I thought I was over, but as you can see that wasn’t the case.
As soon as I saw Doctor Wilson I had an MRI. He understood where I was coming from and what I was trying to do in life. I actually remember having and MRI on a Wednesday and I was having surgery on a Friday. The actual process of rebuilding a knee is hard, you are going to get down, and be depressed, as long as you have some good people in your corner and pray about it and keep God first he is going to guide you through the process. I hit physical therapy real hard.
What made Doctor Wilson stand out was he already had experience with division one athletes. Also, when I first walked in he said “I don’t know how I am going to do this. This guy is huge.” So he kind of made me laugh. Knowing my situation and I was a little down, but he just helped me try to keep a smile on my face. I really love him for that.
Coming back from my injuries, when people hear ACL they automatically think you are done. Thanks to Doctor Wilson, God and my family anything is possible. I have actually committed to St. John’s. It’s a big achievement.
